Serving our customers
The majority, 77 per cent, of our business is with five key retailers - Asda, Marks & Spencer, Morrisons, Sainsbury’s and Tesco - who we supply with a wide range of own label and branded food.
Our commercial teams are focused on how we can add value to these customers. Our long and well established relationships allow us to develop mutually beneficial business plans in our chosen categories.
Own label food ranges are one of the key differentiators for the major retailers in the UK. As a supplier with a long standing reputation for quality and service delivery, we are able to support our customers by creating distinctive products which support their individual market propositions, across a wide range of product areas. We see repeat purchase rates as a strong indicator of our success in this area. Our highly respected technical teams and our rigorous approach to procurement support this approach, ensuring that we are a trusted part of the supply chain.
Category insight
Our category structure helps us provide our customers with real insight and ensures that we are responsive to changing consumer and customer trends, whether that be a demand for healthier ranges or for international recipes or perhaps for different packaging formats which reduce the impact on the environment. This category insight and our food manufacturing experience allows us to think innovatively around all aspects of the supply chain, from the identification and creation of new product development opportunities, through to packaging, product pricing, placement and distribution.
Strong brands
Northern Foods also produces a number of strong brands, including Goodfella’s pizzas , Fox’s biscuits and Matthew Walker Christmas puddings, which are sold through a number of distribution channels, including the major retailers, independent retailers, convenience chains and food service customers. Branded products represent approximately 50 per cent of sales.
