Our Matthew Walker business has been making premium quality Christmas puddings in Derbyshire since 1899 and we are the leaders in this specialist market.
We still make our Christmas puddings in Heanor, where Matthew Walker established his first purpose built manufacturing site.
As well as producing Matthew Walker 'The Pudding', our award winning brand, we also create own label puddings, made to individual recipes for the major retailers in the UK and, under licence, for prestigious customers such as Duchy Originals and Harrods.
Our puddings are also sold abroad through a partnership with Walkers of Scotland brand.
At Matthew Walker, as the world's oldest Christmas Pudding maker, we still use many of the ingredients, cooking methods and recipes, found in traditional cookery books. It's this insistence on tradition and a passion for sourcing the best ingredients that makes us the top Christmas pudding manufacturer in the world.
Steeped in tradition
Christmas is all about tradition and most of us don't want anything radically new - we want our pudding to look and taste the same as it did last year - only better.
While most households don't have time to make or steam a pudding, they still want one that tastes as if they could have made it in their own kitchen.
That's why we cook our Christmas puddings the way you would at home. We hand sort the fruit, mix the ingredients lightly and fill them into basins. The puddings are then steamed traditionally and allowed to cool naturally to give them a dark, moist texture. All the festive cook has to do is heat them up - either in the traditional way by steaming or in the microwave.
Making the best better
We're always looking to improve our puddings - for instance, including new and more exotic fruits, branded alcohols and even a local award winning stout. Most people forget about diets at Christmas but for those with special dietary requirements we produce a range of special recipe puddings, such as gluten-free, dairy-free, and nut and alcohol free. For those with less traditional tastes, we offer a range of alternative seasonal desserts such as our delicious sponge puddings indulgent chocolate bombes and lighter eating pudding alternatives such as our speciality pannetone puddings.
All year round
Alongside our fabulous Christmas puddings we are steadily developing an all year round business. Our Scrummie branded pudding, launched in early 2009, has been developed to evoke memories of childhood in four fantastic flavours.
